Month at a Glance

In Your Mailbox from the STC Office

  • In July, the STC office will mail forms to chapter presidents and treasurers for their annual chapter financial reports for the fiscal year July 1, 2007-June 30, 2008. The form can also be downloaded from the STC website. Chapters must submit these forms to the STC office by September 30, 2008, to qualify for their chapter pass-through payments. (Please note: student chapters are on a different schedule. Student chapter president and/or advisors should contact Diana Buttram, Director of Community Relations, regarding their reports.)
  • In early September, details and applications for membership in STC's honorary societies, Sigma Tau Chi and Alpha Sigma, will be sent to all directors of academic technical communication programs, Society directors, and advisors of student STC chapters. If you meet these qualifications or know of a student who does, please request an application from one of these contacts. The application materials are also available on the STC website.
  • In August, each community will receive an email message describing the nomination process for Associate Fellows, including the information required for a candidate's consideration by the Associate Fellows Nominating Committee. This information also is available on the STC website. Upon request, the Society office will email community presidents or SIG managers a list of all eligible candidates in their communities. Please email your request to Lloyd Tucker, Director of Education.

Community Leaders' Monthly Reminders

July/August

  • Please send the names of the 2008-2009 community leaders to the STC office at +1 (703) 522-2075 (fax), or email Lynn Anderson, membership manager.
  • Have the chapter's financial books informally audited after the financial report has been filed with the STC treasurer.
  • Transfter the outgoing treasurer's records to the incoming treasurer and change signature cards for the chapter's bank accounts.
  • Review the past chapter officers' files and request any missing information from the STC office.
  • Hold an organizational meeting with the new chapter administrative council.
  • If your chapter plans to hold one or more competitions, submit completed chapter competition response forms to the Society office.
